When we talk about Belgian dance music and more specifically the 90s era, it's impossible to ignore the massive impact of Bonzai Records. Thunderball's Bonzai Channel One, Jones & Stephenson's The First Rebirth and Push's trance classic Universal Nation are just three of many classics that helped solidify Bonzai's status as one of the hottest dance labels on the planet.
Last year Kozzmozz celebrated its 15th anniversary - proving it is still a (major) force to be reckoned with. The party continues to sell out Vooruit (Ghent) and it also hosts one of the most popular stages at Tomorrowland.
In December 2010 Kozzmozz head honcho Mathias Kerckhof listed his 15 most memorable K-moments - he is one of this year's Red Bull Elektropedia Award recipients; alongside Leo Bruynoghe, better known as Kozz, who co-launched the Kozzmozz parties.
It's been almost a decade since they've reinvented the mixtape or DJing in general with their groundbreaking compilation As Heard On Radio Soulwax Pt. 2 - which is why David & Stephen Dewaele were already presented with a Red Bull Elektropedia Vanguard Award in 2010.
Whether it's American hardcore, Belgian new beat, Balearic disco or Brazilian psychedelica, the pair (and their creative team) box up cult classics in an audiovisual way that adds another level to the word 'übercool'.
That is why we are presenting them with a Special Vanguard Awards this year - for creating something truly remarkable and unique.
